Glitzy Girlie Girls Need Glue!!!

Look at the Goodie Bag that Katie is giving away!!!
Hello Everyone, for those of you who don't know me, my name is Katie Young and I am a Design Diva here at Scrapaganza. I have been with the store as an employee since October of 2010..but I am also a long time customer. It has been so much fun getting to know all of you and learning about your different scrapbooking styles. My favorite part of my job is helping you tell your stories. I consider it an honor to be part of this experience, and thank you for allowing me to be a part of your creative process.

I was blessed to have the opportunity to attend CHA this summer in Chicago with a bunch of the girls from Scrapaganza. We had so much fun and saw so many awesome products and projects. It is a good thing that they gave out catalogs, and we took pictures, because otherwise I am not sure that I have even believed it really happened! Everyone there was super nice and we met some new friends. One of my new friends is
Julia Sandvoss, who happens to be the GLUE ARTS GIRL!!!

So there we are standing in the middle of CHA, Julia and I, chatting about hair feathers and blingy girly things and our sparkly toenail polish, when I notice her apron full of goodies. So I say bout some swag to give away to the scrappers back in the Quad Cities?? Of course she said YES!!!

She was kind enough to send me home with a Glue Glider Pro, and a refill for it, plus a package of 300 Extreme Tac Adhesive Squares. The pink bag is courtesy of the Glitz Design Girls.

Would you like to have these goodies in your stash?
All you have to do is post a comment on the blog or facebook and tell me which adhesive is your all time favorite, always have on hand, cannot be without for scrapping or crafting.
A winner will be picked at random on Friday September 2nd, 2011.
Good Luck and Happy Scrapping!

Julia Sandvoss and Katie Young

Fresh Idea Friday - Paint Your Story!

It’s Fresh Idea Friday again, and we’d love to share with you the fabulous ideas from Birgit Huffman. If you’ve been in the store, you might have seen the handmade crochet flowers and borders that we sell from Birgit, like the one she used in the page above. We’ve used them in the Scrappinista Club and in many layouts in the store! Well, Birgit has many more ideas and we’re highlighting one of those today.

Birgit says, “Sometimes I can’t find a specific sticker I want, so I just paint it!”

Say what?

That’s right, she PAINTS her own embellishments. From simple flowers to intricate scenes. They always have something to do with the individual(s) in the photos, or the memories associated with the photos.
She starts with watercolor paper (already acid free) or a heavier scrapbooking cardstock. She uses either the Making Memories Scrapbooking paints (we have these in stock!) or she might use regular craft acrylic paints. She thins the paints with acrylic gel thinner and uses bristle brushes. She will often “build up” layers of paint to achieve the look she wants.

Simple items she might paint freehand, more complicated scenes she may sketch out in advance. She definitely likes to look at a photo before getting started, just to get a good idea of what she is creating.
Birgit says that creating her own embellishments allows her to customize her pages, especially when she can’t find specific embellishments to tell the story she wants to tell.

Birgit says that a simple painted embellishment like a 7” tall spray of flowers and cattails might take her as little as 10-15 minutes. The paintings of her father in the two-page layout above might take her 30-90 minutes, depending on details. This last layout with the detailed tree took her nearly 3 hours.

Birgit also mixes her embellishments, combining her painting with other stickers, flowers, brads and more.  This allows her to customize even more!

You don’t have to be an artist to try your hand at paints. Start simple, make a little spray of flowers or a child’s simple toy, or paint your own title! Try altering a sticker with paint… the little house sticker isn’t the right color? Change it!  Don’t worry about being lifelike! This is your story, imagine taking your pages to the next level with the kind of customization that you can do with a little paint, a brush and a world of inspiration!

Alcohol Ink Pens by Marvy Uchida! Available NOW!

Are you looking for AFFORDABLE, permanent and blend-able ink pens? We have what you need!
Marvy Uchida's NEW alcohol ink based markers!
These markers work just like (or better!) than other popular brands of artist markers, yet they are priced more affordably. We tried them out at CHA and just LOVED how easy they are to use! Use them for rubber stamping, coloring, and much more! Currently available in 144 colors, 141 of them are alcohol based, the other 3 are opaque and pigmented.
Want to see what colors are available? Marvy has provided a downloadable and printable color guide! Just click here to download and print!
I tried to find a little helpful video but these markers are so NEW that I couldn't find any cool how-to videos! However, these markers work the same way as copics. I have never used alcohol-based inks before so when I tried them out at CHA I was intimidated at first! But they were so easy!
Here's what I practiced with at CHA... at first I was going to toss it because I chose a color that didn't work, but the demonstrator said no, just choose another color and blend over it. Keep blending till you like it... and light colors can blend over darks! These are fabulous! This newbie to alcohol pens is a convert, and I'm going to give them even more of a try.

So stop in and check them out!
